Wie Sie Ihren Chef bei Abwesenheit entschuldigen

How to make excuses for your absent boss

Was können Sie sagen, wenn ein Anrufer Ihren Chef sprechen möchte, der aber gerade seine Kinder von der Schule abholt?

What do you do if someone keeps calling for your boss and he or sheis picking the children up from school?

No matter where your boss is whether it’s the hairdresser’s, an international conference or the local DIY, it’s nobody’s business.

Never let yourself be pressurised into telling a caller where he or she is.

What you mean: He’s playing golf / at the hairdresser’s / gone to  the doctor’s / I don’t know where she is.
What you tell the caller: He / she is not in the office at the moment. Would you like to leave a message?

What you mean: I have no idea where he is. He didn’t tell me where he was going.
What you tell the caller: He has stepped out of the office. Would you like to leave a message or shall he call you back?

What you mean: He’s just gone to the toilet / men’s room.
What you tell the caller: He has stepped out of the office but he should be back
very soon. Shall he call you back?

What you mean: She hasn’t come in yet. She’s late.
What you tell the caller: I’m expecting her shortly. Would you like to leave a message?

What you mean: She took the day off.
What you tell the caller: She is out of the office for the day. Can someone else help you or would you like her to call you back tomorrow?

What you mean: He doesn’t want to be disturbed / He is busy.
What you tell the caller: He is unavailable at the moment. Would you like to leave a message?
