Remember to wish callers a happy 2012

The first time you call people at the beginning of a new year, or the first time they call you, it’s good practice to ask them how they are, and to send your best wishes for the year to come.

You can do this at the beginning or at the end of a phone call. Here are some useful phrases for you to use.

At the beginning of the conversation, say:

  • Hello and happy new year.
  • Hello, here we are again at the beginning of another year. I hope it’s a good one for you.
  • Happy new year. I hope you enjoyed the holidays.
  • Did you have a nice holiday break?
  • Hello, and how are you? Happy new year!

At the end of a conversation, say:

  • I hope twenty-twelve is a good year for you.
  • Well, it was nice talking to you. Have a great new year.
  • All the best for the new year.

It doesn’t take much effort, but saying these few friendly words will get your work relationships off to a great start in 2012.
