False friends

Be careful when you try to say the above sentence in English. There are two false friends – ‘dezent’ and ‘blamieren’ – that sound very much like the English words ‘decent’ and ‘blame’. But that is not what they mean. What you should have is:
I always make sure to wear conservative clothes when I go to conferences.

When you are talking about clothing, ‘dezent’ is ‘conservative. The English word ‘decent’ means ‘anständig’. ‘Sich blamieren’ means ‘to make a fool of yourself’, ‘blame’ means ‘beschuldigen’.
He is a very decent person, always fair and honest.
I’m really hungry. I haven’t had a decent meal all week.
All the computers have crashed and they don’t know who to blame.
